Teeth Care Taking care of your teeth can be difficult with the extra bands, brackets, and wires in your mouth, but proper dental care is extremely important. The chewing process that normally bathes and exercises gums, and helps clean teeth is interfered by braces, which may cause gums and teeth problems if your teeth are not properly clean. General dental care like caring for your teeth and keeping them cavity-free, is a top priority during orthodontics treatment. Trapped food particles are a breeding ground for cavity-causing bacteria in your braces. Gum disease also can develop, causing swelling and making it even more painful and difficult to clean your teeth. For instructions on how to brush and floss your teeth, please go to the Brushing & Flossing page. Be sure to schedule regular dental care exams every three to six months for cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy. |
