First Aid

Problems

  • Broken Bracket:  If the bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it. If it comes out, bring it to your appointment. Do not attach elastics to a loose bracket.
  • Wire Out of tube:  Try to place the wire back into the tube with a tweezers as shown. If you are not able, place wax on the wire and call us.
  • Poking Wire:  Cover with wax or wet cotton, call us for an appointment.
  • Poking Tie Wire:  Try to push the wire underneath with the eraser side of a pencil. If unsuccessful cover with wax and call us.
  • Broken Retainers:  Retainers are designed to hold your teeth in place. Not wearing retainers as directed will result in shifting of teeth. Please call immediately if you loose your retainer or if your retainer doesn't fit. If you wait too long, the changes that occur may not be corrected with a new retainer and can require additional braces.
  • Treatment Discomfort:  Some tenderness should be expected after each adjustment and the period of tenderness varies with each patient and procedure. Studies show that some medications taken 1 hour before an appointment can reduce discomfort up to 50%. Please only take medications as directed by your doctor and as recommended on the label.
  • Sick Policy:  If you have a cold or are sick please call and reschedule your appointment for a week or two later. It is a courtesy to us so that we don’t get sick and miss work.
